Strategic importance of ammonia in defence supply chains
Ammonia is a key precursor in the production of explosives and propellants. It is one of the most strategically important chemicals in defence manufacturing and one of the most exposed to supply chain risk.
European defence is scaling up. Governments across the continent are increasing defence spending, expanding ammunition production capacity, and reassessing the resilience of critical supply chains. The war in Ukraine exposed how quickly demand for explosives and propellants can outpace supply. Ammonia sits at the beginning of that supply chain, and today it is almost entirely imported from a handful of producing countries — several of which carry significant geopolitical risk.
This is not a theoretical problem. It is an active constraint on European defence industrial capacity.
Localised production as a resilience solution
Local, on-demand ammonia production changes that equation. Our solution produces ammonia from air, water, and electricity, without reliance on fossil fuels or global logistics networks. Production can be sited where it is needed, scaled to operational requirements, and run on locally available renewable energy. For defence procurement and industrial suppliers, this means a more resilient and controllable supply of a critical input material, independent of geopolitical disruption.
