The limitations of renewable energy and storage
The transition to renewable energy has a fundamental problem. Solar and wind produce electricity when conditions allow — not necessarily when demand requires it. Storing that electricity at scale, over long periods, and transporting it across distances remains one of the central unsolved challenges of the energy transition. Batteries address short-term storage. They do not address seasonal storage, long-distance energy transport, or the needs of industries that cannot run on electricity alone.
Ammonia as an energy carrier and production solution
Ammonia is increasingly recognised as a solution to this problem. It can be produced from renewable electricity, stored indefinitely, transported through existing infrastructure, and converted back to energy or hydrogen when needed. It is also a viable fuel for maritime shipping, one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. The challenge with ammonia as an energy carrier has always been cost. Conventional production is fossil-based and centralised, making green ammonia expensive to produce at the scale and locations where renewable energy is abundant.
Our solution is designed to run directly on intermittent renewable electricity: solar, wind, or any locally available clean source. It produces ammonia where the energy is, at the scale that makes sense locally, without requiring the large centralised infrastructure that has made green ammonia economically unviable until now.
